The Beauregard Center hosts culture exploration trips to immerse students in the customs, traditions, and histories of our diverse UNH community.  During these trips, students engage in hands-on learning, enjoy traditional meals, and learn about the cultures and customs of various communities.ÌýÌý

Trips take place during both the fall and spring academic semesters. Each trip is unique – trip details and application process are advertised through our website, email, and social media. Please review the past trips below for reference.ÌýÌý

The Beauregard Center covers student trip costs, including transportation, admission tickets, meals and snacks. These trips are open to all undergraduate, graduate and professional students at the Â鶹app. Application is required, and spaces are open on a first-come, first-served basis.ÌýÌý

2024-2025 Culture Exploration Trips

The third Culture Exploration Trip will take place on Saturday, April 19, 2025 to commemorate UNH LGBTQ+ Pride Month, Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) Heritage Month, Jewish Heritage Month, and Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) Heritage Month. 
Students chose between visiting the Museum of Chinese in America or participating in a NYC LGBTQ+ Pride Walking Tour. Afterward, all students will visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art. 

Itinerary At-a-Glance: 

  • 5:00²¹³¾:ÌýDepart from UNH via charter bus
  • 10:30 - 11:00am: Arrive in NYC
  • 11:00am - 12:00pm: Lunch
  • 12:30 - 2:00pm: Choose on Experience
    • First Option: Visit the Museum of Chinese in America to attend the workshop, "Where do Stereotypes Come From."
    • Second Option: Attend the Pride Tour NYC, which is a walking tour that narrates the history of the Stonewall Uprising and the rise of the modern-day LGBTQ+ Pride Movement
  • 3:30 - 5:30±è³¾:ÌýVisit the Metropolitan Museum of Art to tour their exhibits, which include: 
    • Art of the Arab Lands, Turkey, Iran, Central Asia, and Later South Asia
    • Asian Art of China, Japan, South, and Southeast Asia
    • Egyptian Art
    • Renaissance Masterpieces of Judaica: The Mishnah Torah and the Rothschild Mahzor
  • 6:00±è³¾:ÌýTake the bus to return to UNH. Dinner on the bus. 
  • 11:00pm - Midnight: Arrive at UNH

The second Culture Exploration Trip took place on Saturday, November 2, 2024, in honor of the second annual UNH Native American Heritage Month Celebration. Student participants visited Mt. Kearsarge Museum during their Beadstock festival to learn about the vibrant culture and history of the Native American people across the continent. During the trip, students crafted their own Wampum Bead Bracelet under the guidance of an Indigenous artist and explored the Museum's vendors, Native American galleries, and the Medicine Wood Trail. 

Itinerary At-a-Glance: 

  • 8:00²¹³¾:ÌýGroup meeting at the Beauregard Center and depart via charter bus. To-go breakfast will be provided
  • 9:45²¹³¾:ÌýArrive at Mt. Kearsarge Museum 
  • 10:00 - 11:00am: Exploratory time to visit the Museum's galleries and the Beadstock Vendors
    • During this time, trip participants visited the museum's galleries, which house Native-made artifacts from the various geographical regions of North America, as well as a contemporary art gallery featuring the work of modern Indigenous artists. 
    • Students engaged with the special bead and beadwork vendors featured during the Beadstock event. 
  • 11:00am - 12:00pm: Conversation with Mt. Kearsarge Museum educators about the history of Native American beadwork
  • 12:00 - 1:00±è³¾:ÌýCatered Lunch
  • 1:00 - 2:00pm: Conversation with Museum guest speaker
  • 2:00 - 3:00pm: Make your own Wampum bead bracelet workshop
    • Under the guidance of Katie Devoid, an Indigenous Anishnaabe artist
  • 3:00 - 3:45pm: Outdoor walk of Medicine Wood Trail
    • Native American people respected and relied on nature as a vital source of materials to support and improve their way of life. This trail offers a chance to explore the natural environment and discover how Native peoples traditionally used plants for food, medicine, dyes, shelter, and tools.

The first Culture Exploration Trip took place on Thursday, September 26, 2024, in honor of the first annual UNH Latinx Heritage Month Celebration. Student participants visited the Boston Museum of Fine Arts during their Latinx Heritage Night and enjoyed a traditional meal to engage in an immersive experience that celebrates the vibrant and diverse contributions of Latinx artists and cultures.

  • 11:30²¹³¾:ÌýMeet at the Beauregard Center for lunch and a mandatory group meeting
  • 1:00±è³¾:ÌýDepart from UNH Durham Campus via charter bus
  • 2:30 - 3:00pm: Arrive at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) and line up for free tickets with your UNH ID
  • 3:00 - 5:00pm: Explore the various exhibits at the MFA including: 
    • Stories Artists Tell: Art of the Americas, the 20th Century
    • Dalí: Disruption and Devotion
    • Ancestors and Place: Indigenous North American Prints
    • Community Arts Initiative: Our Family Portrait
  • 5:00 - 6:00±è³¾:ÌýAttend the following workshops during the Latinx Heritage Night at the MFA: 
    • Drop-In Art Making: Mini Painted Tote Bags: Auxiliadora da Silva's Chuva Sobre São Paulo (Rain over São Paulo) (1971) is a whimsical painting depicting a rainy day in the city. Get inspired by this work of art on view in Gallery 335 in the Art of the Americas wing, then use fabric paint to create your own narrative scene on a miniature tote bag. 
    • The Folk Music of Puerto Rico: Enjoy museum from Fabiola Méndez, a Puerto Rican cuatro player, singer, educator, and Emmy-nominated composer. Fusing genres such as folk, Afro-Caribbean, and jazz, Méndez's artistic vision and original music focus on the exploration of culture, ancestry, and identity, inviting listeners to embrace how the power of music and storytelling can unify us. 
  • 6:30 - 7:20pm: Dinner at El Pelón Taquería
  • 8:00±è³¾:ÌýLeave Boston on the charter bus
  • 9:30±è³¾:ÌýApproximate Arrival back at UNH
